Packed & Ready

Almost time to go. What are the odds that all of this…

…will fit into this bitty thing?

We will find out early tomorrow morning, minutes before I head off on my Sierra adventure.

I’ve gone through all but an hour of the handful of Dad’s old tapes that I got digitized. Here’s an edited 30-second bit recorded on March 3, 1959. Once again (because, as you well know, It’s All About Me), it features Little Ginna, with her father. I’ve got my ear out for one of my mother and me.

Oooh, my new (and very heavy) Eureka Copper Canyon tent just arrived from REI late this afternoon, in time for my trip. As with the screen house, the reviews said that it is “super easy to set up—maybe 15 minutes tops” and that one person can do it alone (a requirement for me). I thought it wise to try before my departure.

Well, I guess 34 minutes isn’t too bad. What is bad is my back, after this wrestling match.

I’ve never ever had a tent I could stand up in. How cool is that! I just hope it stays dry in the mountains, because this model leaks.

Just as hard as putting up a tent is squishing it back into its container afterwards. You’ll see it’s certainly not as trimly packed as before, but it’ll do. (I don’t know why the camera changed the color of the bag in the two different shots.)
