Stray Photos

A spider bit me on my back last week, and now my torso is sprinkled with little red dots, like so many stars in a night sky. It’s not for nuffin that I hate spiders.

On a course survey last week, I asked my students, “What didn’t you like about this class, and what suggestions do you have?” One student helpfully noted: “consist paragraph. it not need do.” Another one wrote about how this was her favorite gramma class ever, that she didn’t much enjoy gramma but she knew gramma was important and now she feels that she knows more about gramma than before. Obviously, my focus has been off. Next time I’ll devote the first month to spelling the course title.

The following message has been appearing in my Web browser recently. Interesting that they’ve adopted the same confessional tagline format as AA.

  1. You describe your spider bites beautifully, but I do so wish you wouldn’t be bitten in the first place. (I am quite pleased that I left Los Andes without getting bitten by the Chilean recluse spiders that are evidently thick on the ground up there.)

I think your student is just trying to be hip (or maybe AAVE-ish). All the cool kids be learnin’ gramma!

That Mormon lady actually looks like she’s wincing in pain. Poor troubled soul.

Yes, I did send you the Rogers/Lama picture. It’s from this wonderful blog: http://awesomepeoplehangingouttogether.tumblr.com/ Guess what it’s about.
