Day 63: Fenceposts

It rained again last night, strangely. By early morning the squirrels were particularly feisty, dashing around in groups of four or five, tussling in the trees while chattering and yipping argumentatively, and chasing birds.

It turns out they also spend an inordinate amount of time on fence posts. This is 24 hours’ worth of poses.

Twice today I heard my neighbor two doors down repeatedly banging a pot lid in her yard and yelling, “Get out! Go! Go!” I’m guessing we share a common enemy.

Throughout the early morning sun alternated with drizzle, and I saw a few of these.

Rainbow over San Francisco

To my surprise, I heard from the rescue place about one of the two dogs I told you about a few days ago: Dusty, the blonde dog (lab/Australian shepherd?) I showed you a few days ago. I’d thought she’d been adopted since she was no longer listed on Petfinder and I’d hadn’t gotten a peep in response to my application. The e-mail I received today told a little of Dusty’s story: she’s quite traumatized by recent events in her life. When a shelter took her in, she’d just had puppies, but no one could find them. In the shelter, she was “completely shut down,” but is now adjusting to her new foster home. That level of sensitivity may or may not be a red flag. I figured the only way to get a sense of that—and also of how ready I am to adopt—is to meet her. So—once again to my surprise—I’m taking a leap and am going to introduce myself to her tomorrow at noon. The foster mother and I will maintain social distancing, I’ll wear mask and gloves, and we’ll stay out in her yard.
