Oooops

Home again (as of the day before yesterday), and missing Small. I hope Covid allows me to return to Delarovia before the end of the year. We’ll have to wait and see.

As I told you, American Airlines once again messed up our seats, moving Lulu and me apart at the last minute. She was assigned a nice one with extra legroom, while they stuck me in this weird little row only two seats across (I swear that each was fully three inches narrower than the others), next to the flight attendant’s folding chair. I’m not particularly wide, yet throughout the flight my arms were virtually pinned by my side to keep them within the boundaries of my wee zone. I felt straight-jacketed. Fortunately, though, no one arrived next to me, so Molly thoughtfully relinquished her comfy place to move back and squish in by my side.

The plane arrived on schedule and Lyft got me across the Bay Bridge in only the tiniest of traffic jams.

Yesterday I took my car in for a simple checkup before my upcoming camping trip with Em. I picked it up seven hours and $2700 later, with unexpected new brakes, tires and windshield wipers, as well as the usual oil and filters. Luckily, I trust my mechanic so I know all that work was essential. But yeesh. Life is just too expensive.

Speaking of which, Small has been concerned over the months about my chronically painful back, and has frequently suggested I look into getting a new mattress. But they, too, are costly, so I didn’t take her advice… until a couple weeks ago when I got a good look at my current one.

You may be able to see the trough that my bulk has created over the past twenty-plus years. That can’t be a good thing. So I researched possibilities for folks with funky spines and found a Saatva on sale. Then, amazing grace, Ma said she’d give it to me for Christmas. She continually spoils me. I’m an entitled brat.

It arrived just now.

Why is this post entitled “Oooops”? What I didn’t realize is that the new mattress is about eight inches taller than my previous one. That’s fine, except now I need a pole vault to reach the top, and Heaven help me if I roll out.

I’ve tested it out and, once ensconced, I am exceptionally comfortable. It’s not too soft and not too hard. Goldilocks finds it juuuuust right. What a luxury. Last night’s sleep involved tossing and turning and dozens of instances of waking up. I have a feeling that tonight will be different.

To get up there I’m gonna use that little blue footstool you see on the floor in the picture above.

Thank you, Maw!!!!!!
