Day 23: Nuthin’ but a Hound Dog

Ma (a.k.a. Small) remarked that my drawn dogs are pretty much absent of fur, and she wondered if I could fuzz them up a bit. A reasonable request from someone who sent me to art school. However, I told her I don’t have that much talent (which is why I was a photography major) and immediately proved my point. Plus, it’s awful hard for someone like me to do a dog head-on.

On my way to Andronico’s—the high-end version of Safeway—at 7:00 this morning, I noticed, once again, a long line of people (at six-foot intervals) snaking around the side of the regular Safeway building, waiting to get in. Fortunately it wasn’t like that at Andronico’s and I was out in half an hour, with salmon and cookies and of course some bubbly. I even found a bag of flour: another rare commodity. Virtually everyone in there was observing the recent CDC recommendation on masks, and there was the occasional bandanna worn cowboy-style as well.

How absurd that the biggest excitement of my week—so thrilling that I deem it worth writing about—was a trip to the grocery store.

Would you like to see a drawing before and after it gets painted? Actually, I should have taken a picture of the first step: the pencil sketch, which I erase after I ink it in. Which do you like better? I think I prefer it with color.

These front-facing angles really are tricky.

I just got a request from a sweater designer on Ravelry (a website for knitters and crocheters) for permission to feature my finished sweater on her pattern’s web page. I granted it, but then saw she had already used the photo anyway, which makes me a little cranky.

Speaking of which, I’m starting a new project today, thanks to my next-door neighbor Janie, a seriously skilled knitter. She left a bunch of partial and full balls of cotton yarn on my front porch.

I’m going to use the turquoise and the off-white to make a simple little striped hat. Bye.

  1. Do you realize you’re a gal with many talents!
I enjoy seeing your doggie pics. I know there’s
    Fur on those puppies!

You scored with the flour? Why’d do people want flour so much?
Cake and cookie baking? Bread? Paper mache?
What are you going to do with it?

You are a fine knitter. No wonder Marianna posted it.
I look forward to your hat!

  2. Andronico’s vs Safeway is a perfect example of time and place utility! Ya gets what ya pays for!

  3. Marianna posted it? Oh, different Marianna! I didn’t realize that was the name of the sweater designer, as well as that of my friend.

I bought flour because I used the last of it making brownies last week, and I just like to have some in the house. No plans for it as yet.

    Thanks for commenting, you guys.

  4. Drawing animal fur is hard, man! Perhaps you could try drawing a Xoloitzcuintle?

I prefer the painted-in version of the second doggie, but they are both glorious.

What a glorious yarn haul! That’s sweet of Janie.
